Looking For Answers to
Your Income Tax Questions?

We have picked the most frequently asked income tax questions and answered them by explaining how things work, such as the Child Tax Credit, the Earned Income Tax Credit and providing a worksheet entitled Are Your Social Security Benefits Taxable?, just to name a few.

Are you making improvements on your home such as new windows and doors? If so you may qualify for what most people refer to as the “Home Improvement Tax Credit” and receive up to $1,500 back on your tax return. Did you make these improvements last year and not claim the credit? No problem, you can file an amended tax return and get the refund now. Actually if you made these improvements anytime in the last three years you can amend your return and get the credit. The amount of the credit was lower in prior years so your refund will be less. But it’s still a good credit and money you are allowed to claim so if you’ve done the work you might as well get the credit. See my page on “Home Improvement Tax Credit” for the details.

Check out our amended tax return page where we show you how to amend your tax return and what forms to attach. The IRS receives amended tax returns all the time so there is no issue with filing an amended tax return as long as it’s filed correctly and completely. To see the step by step instructions go to our Amended Tax Return page.
